Homophones and Gramophones are like important details in any language and in English they are many and I could say, an important topic when studying the language. I tell you that because Homophones and Homographs are very common in real English in use. It means that you will find these aspects easily when using the language.
So, let`s talk a little more about them:
Homophones – are words that have the same sound, but different spelling, ex.:
MEAT – MEET
HEEL – HEAL
ROAD – RODE (Past of ride)
BOARD – BORED
HIRE – HIGHER
WAY – WEIGH
Homographs – are words that the same spelling, but different pronunciations, ex.:
READ (Verb in the present) – READ (Verb in the past)
LIVES (3rd person of living) – LIVES (The plural of life)
POLISH (Nationality) – POLISH (VERB)
As you see, Homophones and Homographs can be a little bit tricky, but you can get it! It`s all about practice !
